Sakkara Living knows the independent living retirement industry. The company successfully managed one of the largest portfolios of retirement communities in New South Wales. Through the development of new properties and the acquisition of existing villages, Sakkara created a portfolio of 1,100 dwellings across eight villages.

By 2006 Sakkara recognised the significant increase in values in the retirement village market, and seized the opportunity to capitalise on the premiums available for quality portfolios. Sakkara sold the bulk of its portfolio of villages for a premium during this phase of industry consolidation.

Since then Sakkara has been redeveloping its portfolio through selective development and review of acquisition targets. The flagship property in the company is The Landings – winner of one of the prestigious UDIA NSW Awards in 2007. Sakkara is well-placed to continue expanding its retirement portfolio as demand increases in the retirement sector.

Jane Thompson brings with her more than five years experience in sales and marketing with Colliers International and Colliers PRD. Some of Jane's key clients have included Stockland, Inghams Enterprises, The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, Norwest Land and Crownland Developments. Previously Jane spent nine years in Tokyo, Japan, returning to Australia to pursue various positions in sales and marketing organisations.

Sakkara Living acquires existing villages and repositions them in the market through a targeted refurbishment and upgrade program, or additional development to better the potential of the overall site.

The company also selects sites for new developments, based on an assessment of the demographics of the surrounding area. Australian forecasters call for an 11.5% rise in retirement age population – twice the rate of the overall population growth.
